Dean O'Connors first game in charge ends in defeat for his United outfit.

The first preseason fixture marked an important day for Buckingham United FC, looking to prepare for the North Bucks League Division 1. The recently put together team and Dean O'Conner their newly appointed manager were keen to get the campaign started after several weeks of preseason training. Buckingham United FC took on City Colts in a tough first match against a team that has been together from their junior groups, and had a strong last season.

Buckingham United started the match strongly with a number of attacks on the Colts goal. The pressure resulted in a clear penalty early in the game that was confidently converted by Jimmy Richardson. City Colts demonstrated their quality and team understanding with two quick goals, the first a cross to the back post was put away with a header and the second scored by the ball breaking to a player on the edge of the box which was hit home. Buckingham United were forced to drop their defensive line to enable their attacking players to see more of the ball.

The first half ended 2-1 with the match still there to be won and on a hot day tired legs introduced more space for both teams. The Colts had more of the possession and the better chances in the second half but there were periods when we saw the potential of the newly formed Buckingham United team when they demonstrated some great understanding between the players only half a match into their preseason. Eventually City Colts broke through with a lucky third goal though the striker didn't know much about the rebound as he shinned it in the corner of the net.

The team must be disappointed not to win their first match but Buckingham United can take many positives from the game. The First Team competed for most of the match and up against a strong team. City Colts are in the same division this year so Buckingham United will be looking for revenge later in the season.
