United went into this game with a strong squad despite being noticeably without Tom Dorman, Pete Stiefel, Paul redshaw and current leading goalscorer Pete Taylor.
United lined up in a simple but effective 4-4-2 formation with stand in keeper Lewis Dench, a back four from right to left of, Jamie Taylor, Captain Jonny Ayris, James Kirk and Tom Van Kleel. In the four man midfield featured Matt Ogle, Andy White, Karl Dickens and Tom Bush leaving a strike partnership of Jack Stuchbury and the returning Neil Hailstone. On the Bench was the returning Julian Hawes alongside Adam Bray and John Hinson.
United opened proceedings and from the off they put the pressure on. An early shot was well saved by the Coachmakers 'keeper. United to be quite honest began to hold coachmakers well into thier own half which made it feel like United had a couple of extra men. Matt ogle went close with a long range effort before Jack Stuchbury had a shot blocked on the edge of the area.
The goal came in the 11th minute when Jack Stuchbury received the ball on the left, tucked inside before playing a cheeky reverse ball into the path of Andy White, White took a touch and hit his shot into the top left of the goal, clipping the post on it's way in. A well worked goal and one that was certainly deserved.
From the restart United continued to pile the pressure on and went close through efforts from Ogle, Stuchbury and Hailstone but arguably the best chance coming from a corner. Ogle swung the ball in to find both Karl Dickens and Jonny Ayris completely unmarked only for the former to head the ball over from six yards.
As the half went on Coachmakers began to come into the game which then took it's toll on Jamie Taylor who limped off with an ankle injury. Luckily on the bench was another right back in the form of John Hinson. Hinson made an instant impact on coachmakers with his long throw which they appeared to just watch in amazement.
Coachmakers started to put on a little bit of pressure on the United back line, but were forced to only be able to shoot from distance. If it wasn't for two very close but none the less correct offside decisions they would certainly have been through on goal. This led Lewis Dench in goal to have a rather comfortable first half collecting anything that came his way.
At half time manager Chris Mullis told the side to keep doing exactly as they were, but did however make one change. That came in the form of a substitution with Jack Stuchbury being replaced by Julian Hawes. Stuchbury had recently been having an issue with his back which reoccurred just before the first half whistle. With this Julian then went to Left Wing which pushed Matt Ogle up top.
As the second half began Coachmakers had clearly changed their team around, most noticeably moving their striker to Right Back. This did seem to have an effect with an early amount of pressure being applied which forced Dench to make a number of good saves. Coachmakers best chance came from a cross whipped in on the left hand side which Dench got a good hand too, only to find a coach' player who laid the ball off and from eight yards, his teammate hit wide.
Tom bush was having an excellent game, he was battling and winning balls which most players would have normally given up on. This showed when on 54 minutes he picked a loose ball up and began a razing run down the right flank beating two Coach' players before playing a ball across the box, the keeper spilled the ball which fell kindly at Hailstones feet for what appeared to be a simple tap in. However Coach' had two defenders dive across the line to block it out of nowhere. Act's like this show why they're top of the league.
The chances started to fall for United again and this time from a corner, the ball was whipped in only for Hailstone to head over with a free header. Moments later an almost exact replica corner was played in only this time for Jonny Ayris to have his superb header bravely cleared off the line.
On 70 minutes Mullis made his final substitution with Tom Bush being replaced by Adam Bray. Bray made an instant impact to the linesman who raised his flag for an apparent offside having only been on the pitch for nine seconds. With time ticking Coach' needed a goal and the United full back Van Kleek was coming under a large amount of pressure down the right flank, but with the assistance of Kirk all was well. United went close again this time from Hailstone but his shot was well saved.
With time ticking Coach were desperate for a goal and it almost came in the form of a goal bound shot from 20 yards. However a flying block from John Hinson, running 22 yards to make, ensured the score remained the same. A late chance for Bray would have sealed the win but he clashed with the keeper and penalty claims were waved away.
A look at his watch by the Referee and the whistle went. A extremely hard worked victory by the United side and one that will without doubt live long in the memory.
